R1 Desk.
The R1 desk was born from an admiration for 1950s and 60s furniture, a time when form, function and construction lived in harmony. Built in solid wood, with joints designed not only to hold the parts together but to reveal the making itself.
Two woods,
one piece.
One builds, the other keeps. Sucupira is in everything you see; tauari, in everything that opens.
Dense, strong and boldly grained, in a deep brown tone. It is used in almost the entire piece: top, legs, drawer unit, drawer fronts and details such as the pull designed especially for the drawers.
Lighter in colour and weight, it forms the inside of the drawers. The contrast only appears when a drawer opens: a light interior that brightens what is stored and carries the studio's mark.
The joint that
shows itself.
The tenons pass through the leg and remain visible on the outer face. The joint isn't hidden: it becomes part of the design.
The solid sucupira top rests on the frame with a small gap between the parts, leaving the thickness and end grain of the wood on show.
The curved pull, designed for this piece, runs along the entire drawer front. Inside, the tauari box carries the studio's mark.

to workbench.
